With a new distributor that was far from gunshy, the Geto Boys were on the verge of the breakthrough that a Southern and hardcore act, as well as their still-fledgling record label Rap-A-Lot Records, absolutely needed. And that explosion into the national stage—attributed to the “Mind Playing Tricks On Me” single and its accompanying 1991 album, WE CAN’T BE STOPPED—needed to happen before the fissures that were beginning to form within the group's classic lineup grew too wide to patch up.
