Døgn fluen som ikke ville dø; Dansk Hip Hop 40 år - 2024 (Copenhagen; graffiti, breaking, rap)
SPRAY DAILY text about the project.
EXHIBITION; DØGNFLUEN DER IKKE VILLE DØ!
www.spraydaily.com/dansk-hip-hop-40-ar/
Copenhagen is celebrating four decades of Danish hip-hop culture from 31 August to 13 September 2024 at Spor 10. We are delighted to be able to show how Danish hip-hop has developed and continues to flourish as a huge commercial success, while maintaining its character as counterculture. The visitors will have the opportunity to experience the four central elements of hip-hop; MCing - rapping, DJing, Breakdancing - B-boying and Graffiti/Street Art. This exhibition is a tribute to the many talented artists and fans who have contributed to this rich culture.
The exhibition features an extensive selection of original photos, audio recordings, rap lyrics, old video clips and other authentic hip-hop materials. Visitors will be able to experience flyers, posters, fan letters, sneakers, clothes, graffiti sketches, scrapbooks, tickets, stickers and DJ equipment, etc. This collection provides an in-depth visual experience that captures the essence of Danish hip-hop culture over four decades. In the courtyard, some of Denmark’s best graffiti artists will paint live throughout the exhibition period, giving visitors a chance to experience the dynamism and energy of graffiti in real time. The two weeks end on September 14 with Denmark’s biggest hip-hop concert in Forum, where you can experience your favorite rappers from 1984 to 2024. All profits from the concert go directly to the exhibition Døgnfluen der nikke ville dø, which is Danish rap artists’ tribute to hip-hop culture.
Come and experience the fantastic journey of Danish hip-hop.

Style is King 1999; Class is in session - The history of handstyles by Dash167
Style is King 1999;
Class is in session - The history of handstyles by Dash167
Video; Aerosoldiers Magazine
GOOGLE AI; Handstyles, the foundation of graffiti, are unique, stylized signatures or "tags" that serve as an artist's personal mark and identity. Emerging from 1930s-40s West Coast Cholo writing and 1960s Philadelphia "Gangster Prints," handstyles evolved through NYC's 1970s boom into intricate, varied forms like Philly's "Wickeds," emphasizing speed, flow, and, in cases like Wildstyle, complexity. Key Historical Developments of Handstyles Early Origins (Pre-1970s): Before hip-hop, LA's Cholo graffiti tradition (1930s-40s) used German Gothic, black-and-white, brush-painted, and spray-painted tags to delineate community territory. Simultaneously, "Gangster Prints" (now "Wickeds") developed in Philadelphia in the late 1960s, focusing on stylized, condensed, and, often, vertical letter shapes. The 1970s NYC Explosion: Graffiti solidified in NYC as youth began tagging in the early 70s, transitioning from simple signatures to stylized, personalized tags. Early pioneers like TAKI 183 and Julio 204 set the standard for, and popularized, the art of the tag. Evolution of Styles: As writers grew more competitive, handstyles became more complex. This included the development of "Wildstyle" by innovators like Phase 2, characterized by interlocking letters, arrows, and deliberate illegibility to the untrained eye. Significance and Function: Handstyles serve as the fundamental, everyday signature, acting as territorial markers (identifying crews/individuals) and showcasing mastery of letter form and flow. Tools and Techniques: The evolution of materials—from markers and spray paint to specialised tips—allowed for greater precision, speed, and complexity, influencing the development of unique, regional styles. Key Regional and Stylistic Variations Philly Handstyle: Known for its verticality and speed, specifically the "Wicked" (or "Wickeds") which are often passed down and developed over time. LA/Cholo Style: Rooted in Latin community identity, using distinctive, angular lettering, and a focus on community pride. Wildstyle: Complex, interlocking letters designed to be legible to other artists, not the general public. Today, handstyles remain a critical, respected element within graffiti culture, acting as the foundation for larger, more complex works like pieces and throws. #graffiti #handstyles #handstyle #tags #taggingRELATED LINKS; Handstyles part 1; Revok MSK (Los Angeles) and Handstyles part 2; Rime MSK (New Jersey/Los Angeles) and Handstyles part 3; Twist (San Fransisco) and Handstyles part 4; Dash167 (NYC/Miami) and Handstyles part 5; Sye TC5 (NYC) and Handstyles part 6; Dez TFA (NYC) and Handstyles part 7; Bates AIO and The art and life of Chaz Bojórquez preview and The Artists Block's favorite handstyles from BombingScience favorite list

Young Kool Keith of Ultramagnetic MCs Popping & Locking > Roxy, Manhattan, New York City
Rick Ski TV Video Info; Rare amazing Footage of a young Kool Keith before the Ultramagnetic MCs Fame Poping & Locking in the Fall of 1983. His Name was "Activity" then. This is an excerpt of a Full Length TV-Report from Oslo, Norway about the 'Breakin & Hip Hop Scene, filmed mostly at the famous NYC Roxy Nightclub.Rick Ski TV that have uploaded a lot of fantastic and historic old school footage "stole" a little clip from a documentary that I'd uploaded > Hip Hop Movement, but what I was not aware of was that Kool Keith is in it, I've seen it so many times over the years but never even thought about it and I've been a fan of Ultramagnetic since their first album > Critical Beatdown (1988), thanks for pointing that out. Watch the full documentary here. Featuring interview with DOC TC5, lots more graffiti and breaking from New York and some breakin' from Oslo and Copenhagen.

Once again rap is dead, who killed it his time around?
Google AI; The idea that "rap is dead" is a recurring debate, not a single
event, with recent discussions pointing fingers at commercialization, social
media influencers lacking lyrical skill, and even nostalgic "old heads" for
stifling new talent, though artists like Nas with his "Hip Hop Is Dead" (2006)
song and others argue it's evolving, not dying, with new styles emerging, as
seen in discussions about the changing music landscape and streaming numbers.
Who Gets Blamed? Commercialization & Mainstream: Critics argue record labels
prioritize artists with viral social media appeal over lyrical depth, leading to
less authentic music. Influencers & Mumble Rap: Some feel that artists gaining
fame through platforms like TikTok, without traditional rap skills, dilute the
genre's quality. Old School Fans: Some artists, like Rojelio Capone, suggest
older fans who only appreciate classic styles are partly to blame for rejecting
new artists who innovate. Internal Issues:
Nas's "Hip Hop Is Dead" (featuring will.i.am)
portrayed the search for hip hop's killer as a detective story, implicating a
mix of societal issues and internal stagnation within the genre itself. Is It
Actually Dead? No, it's Evolving: Many artists and fans believe rap is simply
changing, with new sounds and styles (like trap, drill, melodic rap) dominating
the mainstream, while underground scenes still thrive. Data Shows Shifts: While
some data suggests a dip in rap's market share or streaming in recent years,
this is often seen as a fluctuation within a massive, ever-changing genre, not a
death knell. In essence, "who killed rap" is a rhetorical question highlighting
ongoing debates about authenticity, commercial pressures, and the genre's
constant evolution, with blame spread across industry, fans, and artists
themselves, rather than one single perpetrator. #wokeism #emorap

The Sacred Gamer; The Sound Bite That Spawned an Entire Genre of Music > The Roland TR-808 Cowbell
The Roland TR-808 Cowbell (808 Cowbell), is one of the most appreciated sound bites in the history of music, establishing a heavy presence throughout the last few decades. The popularity of the 808 Cowbell partially stems from the admiration producers and composers have for the drum machine it came from. Starting in 1980, the 808 Cowbell has been included in thousands of songs across many genres.
